Johannes Landman crafts portraits and still life scenes in the classic Dutch old master's style. He creates paintings in both large and miniature scale working in oil and using the techniques of transparent glazes.
While Johannes is known for his classic interpretation of the dutch old master's style, he has recently introduced original paintings with a modern subject matter intrepreted through his classic painting style. Inspired by his summer travels throughout Europe, Johannes painted "Jack", which received the honor of People's Choice Award at the Sooke Fine Art Show in British Columbia.
Johannes's accomplishments are not limited to miniature paintings. His hand carved miniature cradle, “Allegory of a Lullaby”, measures 4” in length and is adorned with 24 painted carved figures. The cradle resides in the Kansas City Miniature Museum along with his 1-inch scale, single-action, early 17th century Flemish Harpsichord has ebony and ivory keys, elaborate carvings and a magnificent classical painting under the lid.
Johannes has exhibited extensively and received numerous awards for his work. His art has been purchased in both public and private collections in South Africa, Japan, USA, UK, and Canada. Johannes has completed many commissions for clients in the past and continues to do so today.
Born in Roermond, Holland in 1960, Johannes and his family moved to Rosas, Spain when he was 5. Johannes arrived in Canada at age 18 and currently resides on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
